How we handle your data

Last updated

Animperia is a 2D animation studio in your browser. This page says, in plain words, what we keep about you and why, who else handles it, and how to have it changed or deleted. In short: we keep what the studio needs to work, we measure visits only if you agree, and we never sell your data.

Who we are

Animperia runs this website and the studio. To ask about your data, or anything on this page, write to us at [email protected].

Your account

We keep your email address, your password and when you joined. Your password is stored only as a scrambled hash: nobody can read it, not even us. Signing up also puts your email on our beta list, with what you chose for “I’m a…” if you picked something. If this round of the beta is full, that’s how we know to email you when a spot opens.

If you came from one of our ads, we also note which ad it was with your sign-up: the campaign name in the ad’s link, such as reddit/animperia_beta_v1/demo_a. It’s kept on our server, not in your browser, and says nothing about who you are.

To run the beta, we also count how much of your AI allowance you’ve used and how many videos you’ve exported.

Your work

Your projects, with their scenes, drawings and animations, and the pictures and sounds you upload are kept on our server, so they’re there whenever you log in. When you upload a picture, we save a new copy of it, which leaves out hidden details such as where a photo was taken. Videos you export are deleted from the server once you’ve downloaded them, or after a day if you don’t.

AI, if you use it

You can make everything by hand. When you use an AI feature, what it needs for the job is sent to Anthropic’s Claude, which makes the drawing or the animation: your description, any picture you add, and the drawings and names it works with. It doesn’t get your email address or anything else about your account.

Feedback

When you send us feedback, we keep your message with your account, the page you sent it from and which browser and system you were using, so we can look into it.

Cookies and storage

One cookie keeps you logged in. It lasts 30 days from when you last used Animperia, or until you log out. Your browser also keeps a few editor settings, such as the zoom and panel sizes, and your cookie choice in its local storage, and they stay on your device.

Two more tools run only if you agree. Until you choose, neither of them loads.

  • Google Analytics, for analytics. It counts visits to our public pages and shows how you found us, from the campaign tags in an ad’s link. Beyond that it only counts a few steps: sending the sign-up form, finishing your sign-up, making a project and exporting a video. It never gets your email or your work. Its cookies are _ga and one starting with _ga_. Google’s advertising features (Google signals and ad personalization) are off.
  • The Reddit Pixel, for ads measurement. It tells us whether people who saw our Reddit ads visited and signed up, and never gets your email or your work either. Its cookies are _rdt_uuid and, if you came from a Reddit ad, _rdt_cid. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the Reddit Pixel never loads.

To change your mind, open Cookie settings at the bottom of the page, or in the account menu once you’re logged in. Turning a tool off deletes its cookies.

IP addresses

Our server sees your IP address, as every website does. We use it to stop too many sign-ups or wrong passwords coming from one place, and for that it’s only held in memory, never saved. It may also appear in our server’s logs.

Emails

We only email you about your account (your sign-up link, or a link to set a new password) and about the beta.

Who sees your work

Only you. The Animperia team can open projects to help you or to keep the service running. We don’t sell anything about you, and your work never goes to advertisers.

Who else handles it

A few services do part of the work for us:

  • The host our server runs on, where everything above is stored.
  • The service that delivers our emails.
  • Anthropic, for the AI features.
  • Google Fonts, which sends your browser the fonts our pages use, and so sees your IP address.
  • Google, for Google Analytics, only if you agree to analytics. Like Google Fonts, it sees your IP address.
  • Reddit, for the Reddit Pixel, only if you agree to ads measurement. It sees your IP address too.

How long we keep it, and your choices

We keep your account and your work until you ask us to delete your account, and then we delete its projects and uploads too. You can also ask us to take you off the beta list, to send you a copy of your data or to correct it. Write to [email protected].

Age

Animperia is for people 13 and over.
